Afghan interior minister in Delhi

Afghan Interior Minister Younous Qanooni arrived on Thursday night on a four-day visit to apprise the Indian leaders on the new interim set up in Kabul.

He would also be discussing with Indian officials the efforts to initiate massive reconstruction of the war-ravaged nation.

Qanooni, the first Afghan leader to visit India after the power-sharing accord reached by four Afghan factions in Bonn earlier this week, will meet External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani during his stay here.

India has, while supporting a fully representative, broad-based government in Kabul, stressed that negotiations for a future dispensation should be 'Afghan-based'.

New Delhi has also offered to extend all possible assistance to the reconstruction process in Afghanistan.
