Kamal Haasan. This name needs no introduction. No explanation and no lengthy speeches needed on how great an actor he is.
It is indeed a difficult task to select ten or twelve movies from the hundreds of unforgettable films of the versatile Tamil actor. As we await his latest film, Dasavathaaram, here's a look at some of the most memorable ones.
Kalathur Kannamma (1960)
This 1960 A Bhimsingh classic had several great actors going for it, notably Gemini Ganesan and Savithri.
But despite the serious storyline and heavyweight acting, it was a little boy who caught the attention of the audience. Playing the young son of Kalathur Kannamma (Savithri), who, despite being wedded to Ganesan is left adrift, he's taken in by his own father, who is unaware of the fact.
With no one being the wiser about his identity, he charms the whole household, and eventually paves the way for a tearful reconciliation.
From the beginning, Haasan took control of the emotional angst, melting everyone's hearts with his innocent wide-eyed looks and peppy, chirpy speech. There was no sign of rigidity, no indication that he was acting in front of a camera.
The role earned the precocious child artist his first National award.
