June 2 marks the 20th death anniversary of legendary director, Raj Kapoor.
The prolific filmmaker will always be remembered for the socially-relevant films he made, and the women he launched. rediff.com celebrates the showman, and takes a look at the beautiful way Kapoor launched his heroines.
Nargis
Raj Kapoor and Nargis started their hit pairing with Aag in 1949. They gave plenty of hits together, and after a point of time, Nargis only did films for Kapoor.
It is said that she even refused to do a film for her mentor Mehboob Khan -- who gave her Mother India -- when he wanted to cast her in Andaaz. The role finally went to Nadira.
The rain scene of Shree 420, pictured here, is one of the most memorable scenes in Hindi cinema.
Their pairing came to an end with Jagtey Raho. After that, Nargis went on to marry Sunil Dutt.
