Srividya
Rajnikanth and Srividya were 26 and 22 years old respectively when they costarred in Rajni's debut film, Apoorvaragangal. He played a terminally ill elderly man while she played a 45-year-old woman ditched by him when she was a young unwed mother.
They had no combination scenes except one flashback and the climax when he died in her presence after apologising to her.
Sixteen years later, Srividya and Rajnikanth acted together -- in one of their best performances -- as mother and illegitimate son in Man Ratnam's Dalapathy, a diluted version of Mahabharatha. The brilliantly conceived roles gave both ample scope to showcase their histrionic prowess.
