He is called the Serial Kisser, which makes the prospect of a meeting always intriguing.
When we ran into Emraan Hashmi at a press conference in Mumbai's suburbs, he was dressed in faded jeans and a white T-shirt, smiling as the flashbulbs went off. Hashmi has proved himself with a number of hits. Although some of his films flopped, almost all the songs filmed on him worked. The women love
him, and men like his innocent, yet mischievous, face. Does the Serial Kisser tag bother him? No. "After all, we cater to the audience," he says.
Despite his naughty reputation, co-actor Irrfan Khan describes Emraan as an introvert. He says that Hashmi was shy on the sets and kept to himself in between scenes. What makes Hashmi top the charts? Is it the kisses, the songs, that bad boy image, or acting skills? Hashmi says, "In my first ever scene with Aftab Shivdasani in Footpath, I took 40 takes. The film didn't do well and I thought I would never act again. But the Bhatts had confidence in me. Murder happened, and the women adored it. There has been no looking back since."
Priyanka Jain asked the actor a few more questions. Excerpts.
