The Government of India on Monday named finance secretary D Subbarao as the next Reserve Bank of India Governor. He will replace Yaga Venugopal Reddy who will step down this week.
Subbarao, who is currently finance secretary, will take over on September 5 and his tenure will be for three years.
In May 2007, Duvvuri Subbarao was appointed the secretary, Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance. He belongs to the 1972 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (AP cadre) and topped the Civil Services Exam in 1972.
He also worked as secretary to the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council.
