Karnataka awaits report on Huawei-Taliban nexusKarnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna on Friday said the government was awaiting a report about the involvement of Chinese software company Huawei Technology India Limited in development of telecom surveillance equipment to the Taliban. Talking to newsmen in Bangalore, Krishna said the state government was in no way involved in the issue and it was for the government of India to disclose on whatever had been brought to his notice about the Chinese company. "It is for the Government of India to act. After all, we (the state government) are only concerned with law." Krishna said the state government had so far not heard from the Centre on the issue, but assured that the state government was keen to take all possible steps to ensure any threat perception on the nation was avoided. He said the state information technology department was also inquiring into the reports of the Chinese company's involvement. Huawei, which has its research and development centre in Bangalore and employs over 500 software engineers, including 178 Chinese, however, had denied the reports that it was developing surveillance equipment for the Taliban. "It is unthinkable for the company to get involved with an unlawful regime," a company spokesperson had stated in his immediate reaction. He had stated, "the report (in a section of press) is untrue and baseless. The company has no connection with Taliban", a company spokesman told newsmen. However, Pakistan was part of the marketing network for the company, he added. (UNI and PTI) YOU MAY ALSO WANT TO READ:
