China satisfied with India's response over Huawei issue

China on Thursday welcomed India's handling of the issue concerning alleged links between Chinese telecom major Huawei Technologies and the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Denying the Indian media reports which said that Huawei's Bangalore Software Development Centre was making telecom surveillance equipment for the Taliban, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue told reporters in Beijing, "China welcomes the statements made by the Indian government."

"I have seen the relevant reports. The so-called Chinese engineers helping Taliban develop telecommunication surveillance equipment is something made out of nothing," she said.

Zhang in a statement on Wednesday, had denied the Indian media reports in this regard.

"The Indian government has not decided to expel anyone from India and the report carried by the Indian media is not true," Zhang pointed out.

Media reports in India said that the Cabinet Committee on Security may deport 185 Chinese telecom experts who are suspected of developing telecom surveillance equipment for the Taliban at Huawei's Bangalore facility.

The company was earlier accused of violating United Nations' sanctions against Iraq this year by providing fibre-optic communication cables for air defenses. However, this was denied by the Chinese foreign ministry.
