Review: Is Apple's MacBook for you?

April 8, 2009
When one is shopping around for Apple's latest products, one can't help but be floored by the packaging. The company's minimal usage of paper or material while being trendy is highly commendable, and the MacBook is no exception. The MacBook at first glance gives you a very exclusive feeling -- the metallic structure, compact and light weight. After working with various laptops, I can safely say that the feeling of unpacking a MacBook is totally unique.

However, for as wonderful as it is, nobody buys a new laptop for the beauty of its packaging or recyclable material -- the main interest is always the product itself and its performance. So let's get to it.

Unlike previous models that simply added a bigger hard disk or faster processor within the same form factor, the newest models offer a combination of new features internally and externally.

Externally, the latest MacBook has become thinner and lighter -- the height being 0.95 inches, the width being 12.78 inches (similar to the previous MacBook). More importantly, it weighs in at only 4.5 pounds. Carrying this MacBook is a real delight, thanks to its thinness and low weight. This is the type of laptop you'll be happy to take wherever you go and even happier to use whenever you use it.
