The Sundar Singh Bhandari Chat
Bhadri Prasad (Tue Feb 24 1998 7:35 IST)
Mr Bhandari: Will the rally of Mr Vajpayee in Bombay tomorrow be as huge as Sonia Gandhi's? And why is he sharing the plank with BAL THACKERAY??? Is the reason the Shiv Sena is helping in the rally get a HUGE AUDIENCE?
Mamta (Tue Feb 24 1998 7:39 IST)
Mr Sundar Singhji there are indications that NO PARTY will get an absolute majority. In such a case what will you do?
Firoz Wadia (Tue Feb 24 1998 7:42 IST)
Hello Bhandariji, Why has the BJP allowed every Tom, Dick and Hari to enter its party??? Don't you think it was a mistake, because that move has earned the party disrepute?
guru (Tue Feb 24 1998 7:43 IST)
Hello Mr. Bhandari, What's your estimate regarding the seats the BJP will win in the general election? Do you think atalji's hunger strike influenced the second phase?
Bharat (Tue Feb 24 1998 7:44 IST)
Mr Bhandari: What do you speculate will be the margin of seats that BJP will be able to win? which are you weak points?
Shyla (Tue Feb 24 1998 7:48 IST)
Mr Bhandari: Don't you think that it was an act of fate in UP? Kalyan Singh was dismissed the way he came to power?
Mahmood (Tue Feb 24 1998 7:51 IST)
Mr Sundar Singh: What is the equation going to be like once the BJP comes to power. How much of the government will be run by the BJP and how much by the RSS nd the Viswha Hindu Parishad?
Rita (Tue Feb 24 1998 7:57 IST)
Mr Bhandari: we have heard reports that there are differences in who should be projected as the prime ministerial candidate. Isn't Vajpayee being projected as a candidate for PM because he is the more liberal face of the party?
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:5 IST)
When will old foggies retire from BJP?
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:7 IST)
I have a suggestion... keep RSS totally separate from BJP. RSS is doing good work in cultural field but why should it get involved in politics?
Sandesa (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:8 IST)
Mr.Bhandari >> Are u bothered abut the low turnout ? And How many seats do ye expect from Uttar Pradesh 'n' Madhya Pradesh ?
Princess (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:9 IST)
Mr Bhandari: can we spare a thought for poor Mulayam who was stabbed in the back by the BSP and your party three years ago, and who is still fighting for justice? How come his petition is yet to be disposed of, while yours has been rushed through? Is there pro-BJP bias where it matters?
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:9 IST)
Have you heard a phrase called putting eggs in one basket.....Parivar is fine but RSS should not suffer because of BJP fortunes what do you say?
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:11 IST)
Mr Bhandari..I am asking again...is it not a good idea to have RSS as a totally cultural Hindu organisation?
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:13 IST)
RSS will gain a lot if it dissociates itself from BJP and provide a platform for Hindu missionary work....think about it
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:16 IST)
What will be the role of science if BJP comes to power? Will they rely on astrologers? India has suffered so much leaving everything to fate, is it not?
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:18 IST)
I am changing colors...my q is why not completely separate RSS from BJP?
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:19 IST)
Mr. Bhandari please give short answers...and promptly if you can
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:21 IST)
communists/socialist electricity fails again! why so?
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:23 IST)
I feel the Sonia factor gained so much importance because of ill-advised moves by the BJP. What do you feel?
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:28 IST)
Do Muslims have a role to play in BJP nationalism. If yes, how do you convince them?
vijay (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:29 IST)
Mr Bhandari , are you confident that BJP would get mileage due to UP incidents.
Manish (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:33 IST)
Mr. Bhandari, Why did you support Gujral in Jalandhar , even when he is the worst PM a country can have. You see he didn't speak a single word in the whole UP issue.
chanak (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:35 IST)
Mr. Bhandari >> If the BJP cannot come up with needed majority (along with its allies) is it prepared to sit in the opposition or will it try to form the govt anyway. I'm of the opinion that it should sit in the opposition instead of trying to form a coalition that may not succeed. It's better to sit out in the opposition and wait your turn. The coalition govt (UF/Congress) is bound to fail again and that time the BJP will be in prime position to take a majority in the polls. Comments please?
chanak (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:37 IST)
Mr. Bhandari >> As you said you "never thought that sonia would be able to make an impact" but the fact is that she has made an impact and should the BJP NOT have hit her hard and tried to stymie her popularity? I think that was a mistake for which BJP will pay at the polls. Lets hope its not too steep a price to pay? why is it that when Indian political parties make a mistake they do not admit to it. So the party made a mistake by not going after Sonia, why is it so hard to admit? comments please?
chanak (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:38 IST)
Mr. Bhandari >> What will be the top 10 priorities of the gov't. And please don't give standard answers like remove corruption, "gareebi hatao, etc". What concrete steps will BJP take if it comes to power, in matters of domestic and foreign policies. comments please?
Manish (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:40 IST)
Mr B. What are your plans to improve the health care in India
guru (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:45 IST)
Dear Sh. Bhandari, I am not quite sure how India could single-handedly reopen negotiations. It would be subject to quite some arm-twisting by the super powers.
chanak (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:45 IST)
Do you feel that our democratic process is flawed? Should we go to a presidential system much like that in the United States where the people elect its president. Do you not think that would have benefited the BJP with Mr. Vajpayee as the clear front choice of the people of India. And does that not help the people in getting the kind of leader it wants?
It certainly has helped countries like United States, Germany become world powers. And taken countries like England back (countries that have a parliamentary system) Would BJP be in favor of changing the constitution to make it a presidential system?
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:45 IST)
If BJP does not get majority do you think it will have itself to blame?
Krishna (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:45 IST)
Mr.Bhandari, that bit about "Removing social disparities" was general and ambiguous. Does it mean commitment to the present reservations system in toto as is where is ? Has not much change taken place, the playing field more level now ?? Of course, the State can have a socialistic and welfare-orientation without emphasising privatisation only.
chanak (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:47 IST)
sandesa >> I agree with your assessment. And if that assessment is correct, Mr Bhandari, would you still try to form a govt even though you'd be far short of the required seats to form a gov't?
videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:51 IST)
Shri Bhandari, then why this "Parivar" thing? Can RSS support good candidates from Congress and UF?
Kannan (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:54 IST)
Bhandariji How effective were/are BJP state governments? Can you say that they have given the people basic things in life?
Varinder (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:55 IST)
Mr. Bhandari: Our prayers and good wishes are that BJP gets a clear mandate and India has some stability. What are the options of your party in case of a hung parliament?
Sandesa (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:55 IST)
Mr. Bhandari .. I will be happy if u tell me from where u'll get the remaining 50 odd seats ?
chanak (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:58 IST)
Mr. Bhandari >> But what will be the strategy IF BJP cannot reach that 250 to 275 mark. What then? Are you prepared to sit in the opposition?
seth (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:58 IST)
mr Bhandari kindly comment on the ongoing struggle b/w sanh parivar and the bjp
Krishna (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:59 IST)
Thank u, Mr.Bhandari, would like a answer to my last question. Still time ?
Videshi (Tue Feb 24 1998 8:59 IST)
Shri Bhandari what do you think of Mr. Narayanan our president. First, from a Dalit background. He has shown extraordinary courage and dignity. He has proved that all of us if given an opportunity can do well. My q: what steps has BJP taken to integrate dalits in our society?

Sandesa (Tue Feb 24 1998 9:4 IST)
Chanakya : I agree w/ ya . Dalits must be given the opportunity but Brahmins mustn't be suppressed
SavitaS (Tue Feb 24 1998 9:18 IST)
Namastey Shri Bhandari, I would like to know what the BJP's plan is on enforcing common civil code?
Vikram (Tue Feb 24 1998 9:50 IST)
Dear Shri Bhandari, Do you think the recent developments in UP are a shot in the arm or the other way round?
venkat (Tue Feb 24 1998 10:59 IST)
In an event that BJP requires few additional MPs to prove a majority and form a govt, would you consider aligning with some of the opponent parties such as T Desam, TMC, or even the DMK, for that matter?
siddharth (Tue Feb 24 1998 13:9 IST)
What is the BJP's current stand on the babri masjid/ram janmbhoomi issue?? Nearly 6 years after the destruction of the mosque there has only been a makeshift temple constructed there...Why is that???
