Pakistan's Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin resigned on Tuesday following months of strained relations with other members of the federal Cabinet, saying he was stepping down to focus on his private business interests.
The United Stated deducted $55 million under its reimbursement programme -- for expenses incurred by Pakistan on the war on terror -- after American auditors raised objections to a claim submitted by the country.US authorities deducted the amount, while releasing only $101 million out of Pakistan's claim of $156 million for expenses incurred on the campaign against terrorism till April 2008. The move was the outcome of objections from American auditors.
Saudi Arabia has agreed to provide US$ 4.2 billion worth of assistance to cash-strapped Pakistan to support its economy, it emerged on Wednesday after Prime Minister Imran Khan held talks with Saudi Prince Mohammad bin Salman in Riyadh this week.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on Monday that his government will allow India to send a humanitarian shipment of 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat to neighbouring Afghanistan through its territory after finalisation of the transit modalities.
