West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday accepted Aroop Biswas's resignation as the sports minister in the wake of the controversy over the mismanagement of football icon Lionel Messi's event last week, a senior leader of the ruling Trinamool Congress said.
Former Communist Party of India-Marxist MP Lakshman Seth, arrested for alleged involvement in the disappearance of six persons in Nandigram in 2007, was on Friday granted bail by the Calcutta high court after remaining in custody for 118 days.
Directors of AMRI Hospital Manish Goenka and Ravi Todi were on Monday granted bail by the Calcutta high court in connection with the December 9 hospital fire that killed 90 people, mostly patients. Goenka and Todi, who were in custody for 116 days, were granted bail by a division bench comprising justices Ashim Kumar Roy and Asim Kumar Ray.
