The Indian men's basketball team upstaged Chinese Taipei 80-68 in a classification match to finish seventh in the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016 in Tehrah on Sunday. Chinese Taipei took the early initiative and surged ahead 22-15 in the first quarter. The Indians, however, came back strongly and in the second quarter took a slender one point lead at 33-32.

The Indian basketball team defeated Kazakhstan 100-90 in its last Group E game to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016 in Tehran on Wednesday. This is the third straight time the men's team has progressed to the knockouts. After the win at Azadi Sports Complex, India entered the knockouts as the fourth team from the group behind China, Jordan and Taipei. India have completed the group stage engagements with a 3-2 win-loss ratio.
This was due to the fact that they had already won the Khel Ratna, the country's highest sporting honour.
