Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan went to Mohanlal's home in Kochi last week in an attempt to appease the superstar but in vain.
The band is called Lalisom, and shows will be held in India and abroad.
In a letter to the state government, Mohanlal wrote he had been "pained by the strong criticism."
