Two men have been apprehended in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 22-year-old hearing and speech-impaired woman in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh. The rape incident created outrage in Uttar Pradesh as the girl trying to run away from her rapists was caught on a nearby CCTV.
Security has been increased in Uttar Pradesh districts bordering Nepal following violent protests in Nepal over a ban on social media. Authorities are monitoring the situation and have increased patrols and surveillance.
The state government will also give Rs 2 lakh more as financial assistance, the Balrampur MLA who met the victim's family said on Friday.
Balrampur Superintendent of Police Dev Ranjan Verma, quoting the victim's family, said the woman, who worked with a private firm, returned home in a serious condition on Tuesday. The girl looked dazed and had an intravascular cannula, medically known as Vigo and used for administering injection or other fluids in the body, inserted in her hands. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died on the way, said the SP.
