Satish Chandra Verma, a senior IPS officer who had assisted the Central Bureau of Investigation in its investigation into the alleged fake encounter case of Ishrat Jahan in Gujarat, was dismissed from the service on August 30, a month before his scheduled retirement on September 30, officials said on Tuesday.
Vanzara was granted bail in the encounter case involving Jahan and three others in February last year on condition that he will not enter Gujarat.
Johri is the one who has been accused in the Sohrabuddin-Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case. However, the special Central Bureau of Investigation court discharged her from the case in March 2015, as the prosecution failed to obtain sanction for her prosecution from the state government.
He did not name the officer but it was Gujarat Indian Police Service officer Satish Verma who probed the case.
Former IPS officer D G Vanzara, who was accused in the alleged fake encounters of Ishrat Jahan and Sohrabuddin Sheikh and was later discharged in both the cases, has been given post-retirement promotion as the inspector general of police (IGP) by the Gujarat government, six years after he retired from service. As per the notification issued by the state home department, a copy of which Vanzara tweeted on Tuesday night, he has been promoted as the IGP with effect from September 29, 2007. Additional secretary to the state home department, Nikhil Bhatt, on Wednesday confirmed that his department has issued a notification about Vanzara's promotion.
"The inquiry committee was set up not to implicate anyone but to find the missing files," he said amidst allegations that the National Democratic Alliance government set up the panel to find faults in the previous United Progressive Alliance government.
Singh, now a Bharatiya Janata Party member of Parliament from Bihar, said what was the reason for the change of the affidavit when the Intelligence Bureau had said that Ishrat had links with Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists.
