India gained four places to jump to 130th in the FIFA rankings issued on Wednesday.
This improvement in ranking came despite India not playing any senior international match in either December or January.
The senior team's last match was the final of the Nehru Cup in August last year, in which they beat Syria to defend their title.
The India Under-23 side then won the SAFF Cup in December last year but since it was not a senior squad the country did not gain any rating points.
India, who are planning international friendlies against continental sides in the run-up to the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, too gained four places to move up the ladder at the 21st spot among Asian Football Confederation members.
Bob Houghton's men are placed above Turkmenistan and below Singapore in the Asian list headed by Australia (23rd).
