Switzerland set a new World Cup record for not conceding a goal after holding Chile scoreless through the first 67 minutes of their Group H match on Monday.

The Swiss ran their streak to 551 minutes to replace Italy as the World Cup's stingiest defence.

Coming into Monday's contest Switzerland had not conceded a goal in their last five matches going back to the 1994 World Cup when they lost 3-0 to Spain in the second round.

Italy set the previous record holding opposition scoreless for 550 minutes, spanning parts of the 1986 and 1990 World Cups.
