England secured an emphatic 4-0 victory in Kazakhstan on Saturday to move closer to qualifying for next year's World Cup finals.

Goals from Gareth Barry and Emile Heskey as the halftime whistle approached gave England a hugely flattering lead after they were more than matched by their lowly-ranked opponents.

The Kazakhs, beaten 5-1 at Wembley last October, faded after the break and England wrapped up a sixth win in six qualifying games when Wayne Rooney hooked in a third and Frank Lampard converted a penalty.

Victory left Fabio Capello's side comfortably ahead of nearest rivals Croatia and Ukraine with a home match against Group Six whipping boys Andorra to come on Wednesday.
