The old men and Chelsea
When Roman Abramovich bought Chelsea and poured in funds previously unseen in the game, he expected an immediate return.
The club's incumbent Italian coach, Claudio Ranieri, could only reach the Champions League semi-finals so he obviously had to go.

Put aside the inability to win a title, Ranieri was successful in managing an eclectic squad and leading them to runner-up finishes in the Premier League (2004) and FA Cup (2002).
Probably the 'Tinkerman,' as the Italian was called, paid the price for tinkering his star-studded squad too much besides his failure to land a major title.
