Ryan Lochte of the United States took the gold medal in men's 200m backstroke final with a time of 1:53.94s, breaking his own world record of 1:54.32s.

His teammate Aaron Peirsol, the other simultaneous WR holder, swam in second place at 1:54.33s. Arkady Vyatchanin of the Russian Federation won the bronze medal in 1:54.93.
Lochte also won a gold medal in the Men's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay final.
