World number three Jelena Jankovic ruthlessly disposed of Spain's Virginia Ruano Pascual 6-0, 6-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the China Open on Thursday.
Having been forced to wait until day four of the $600,000 tournament to open her quest for a fifth title of the season, Jankovic was in no mood to waste any more time and had a 3-0 lead inside seven minutes.
Ruano Pascual, who is 34 on Friday, had won just five games in two previous defeats at the hands of Jankovic and simply had no answer to the Serbian's power and mobility.
The hapless Spaniard served three winners in 45 minutes of play as Jankovic secured a quarter-final tie against Japan's [Images] Akiko Morigami, who beat compatriot Aiko Nakamura 7-5, 6-3 in her second round match.
After the withdrawal of Justine Henin [Images] and Svetlana Kuznetsova, Jankovic should fancy her chances in Beijing [Images] even if Lindsay Davenport [Images] may lie in wait in the semi-finals.
Davenport, who beat Jankovic last week, continued her remarkable comeback by beating Greek Eleni Daniilidou 7-5 6-3 to reach a quarter-final against Russian fourth seed Elena Dementieva.
