Shrugging off the controversy surrounding their partnership, Sania Mirza [Images] and Israeli Shahar Peer displayed a resolute performance to advance to the second round of Wimbledon women's doubles competition.
Sania and Peer defeated Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden and Lilia Osterloh of the USA 7-5 6-3 in a late first round encounter on Friday.
In a second round clash scheduled on Saturday, the 16th seeded Indo-Israeli pair will meet Agnes Szavay of Hungary and Vladimira Uhlirova of Czech Republic.
