World number one Roger Federer [Images] underlined his status as French Open favourite when he hammered former champion Carlos Moya [Images] 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Top seed Federer confirmed he had all it takes to triumph in the only grand slam tournament to elude him so far when by outclassing the Spaniard, a winner here in 1998, in just an hour and 41 minutes.

The gifted Swiss all-rounder faces a seemingly easy passage through to the semi-finals as he now meets world number 90 Victor Hanescu of Romania, who overcame former Wimbledon [Images] finalist David Nalbandian in five sets, 6-3, 4-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.

If he were to beat Hanescu, Federer could then meet Spanish prodigy Rafael Nadal [Images] for a place in the final.

This year's revelation, the 18-year-old Nadal was on a 20-match winning streak on clay before meeting French number one Sebastien Grosjean in the fourth round later on Sunday.
