"One World, One Dream" is the new slogan for the 2008 summer Olympic Games in Beijing [Images], China announced on Sunday after the saying was picked from more than 210,000 entries.
"There was no single winner. The slogan embodies the wisdom of hundreds of thousands of people," Xinhua news agency quoted Liu Qi, President of the Beijing Organising Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG), as saying.
"It conveys the noble ideal of people in Beijing as well as in China to share their civilisation and create a bright future hand in hand with people from the rest of the world," he said.
The slogan replaces the previous "New Beijing, Great Olympics [Images]" and will become a key part of the Beijing Olympic brand, Xinhua said.
The organising committee launched a global search for the slogan in January and "One World, One Dream" won after several rounds of "selection and revision by experts in fields like Olympics, sociology, sports, culture and language," Xinhua said.
BOCOG hoped the focus of the new slogan would shift from the city itself to "the Olympic spirit of unity, friendship and progress and traditional Chinese cultural value of harmony and peace," it said.
