Indian spikers go down to Qatar

Third seeds Qatar shocked 2002 runners-up India in the quarter-final league in the 12th Asian junior men's volleyball championship at the Khalifa Sports Complex in Qatar on Tuesday.

The hosts came up with a splendid display to beat the Indians 25-18, 23-25, 28-26, 25-18.

It was the Indians' second quarter-final match. They beat Australia in their first match.

In other matches of the day, Japan beat Australia 25-20, 25-23, 25-22 while five-time Asian champions Korea outclassed Oman 23-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-14.

At the Al-Sadd Sports Complex, defending champions Iran overwhelmed China 25-16, 25-17, 25-18; Chinese Taipei beat Pakistan 20-25, 19-25, 28-26, 25-23, 15-8; Thailand hammered Yemen 25-17, 25-23, 30-28; Kuwait whipped UAE 25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 25-18 and Saudi Arabia beat Indonesia 19-25, 25-20, 25-15, 17-25 and 15-12.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka scored their first win of the championship, beating Bahrain 26-28, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20.
