The Frenchman was voted ahead of fellow Gaul Thierry Henry and Brazilian forward Ronaldo. 2003 proved a productive year for the French maestro. Real won the Spanish League title and France qualified for the Euro 2004 final with a perfect record of eight wins from eight matches.
