October 15, 2003 21:56 IST

National champion Pankaj Advani stayed on course for a berth in the knock-out round in the World Snooker Championships after beating Leong Kuok Kei of China Macau 4-0 in Jiangmin, China, on Wednesday.

Advani, who had registered three victories in the four Group C encounters, blanked Kei 76-1, 65-23, 85-8, 91-4.

The fifth day of the tournament proved fruitful for Indians as all the other four cueists -- Alok Kumar, R Uma Devi, Vidya Pillai and Chitra Magimairajan -- recorded comfortable wins in their respective groups.

In Group H, former national champion Alok Kumar thrashed Tain Pengfei of China 99-31, 67-45, 84-32, 70-50.

It was Alok's third straight victory and the cueist from Punjab has not lost a frame so far in the competition.

In the ladies' section, national champion Vidya Pillai defeated Noemie Lok of China Macau 66-35, 59-26, 58-19 in Group A; R Uma Devi got the better of England's Michelle Brown 47-33, 60-49, 67-50 in Group D; while Chitra beat Samantha Ridley of Australia 43-38, 73-43, 54-29 in Group C.
