Local favourite Greg Rusedski beat Germany's Alexander Waske 7-6, 7-5, 7-6 to set up a second round encounter with big serving Andy Roddick with whom he shares the record for the fastest serve in world tennis at 149 mph (239.8 km).

"It's a great feeling to go out there and win a match when a lot of people didn't think I would be back," Rusedski said.
