Sir Bobby Charlton, one of the greatest players to have graced England and Manchester United, has a very high opinion of Beckham.

"He is unusual. He was desperate to be a footballer. His mind was made up when he was nine or ten. Many kids think that it's beyond them. But you can't succeed without practising at any sport."

Words that the current England captain had heard before.

"Sir Bobby Charlton said I was the best 11-year-old he'd seen in the six years of running his school."
