Joshna Chinnappa wins Asian title

British Open champion Joshna Chinnappa beat Vaidehi Reddy 3-1 on February 5 to win the 11th Asian Junior squash championship in Islamabad, Pakistan. The 16-year-old squash prodigy came back strongly after losing the first game to win the final against her Chennai mate in a little over 40 minutes, at 5-9, 9-7, 9-4, 9-6, and become the first Indian to win the gold medal at the championships.

This is the first time two Indians contested the final of an Asian squash event. The title came a month after Joshna won the prestigious under-17 British Open title.
