Gopichand to wed PVV Lakshmi

Syed Amin Jafri

Olympians Pulella Gopichand and PVV Lakshmi will tie the knot at the famous Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Devasthanam at Yadagirigutta in Hyderabad on Wednesday night. The ceremony, expected to be a low-key family affair, will be performed at 10.45 pm.

Gopichand (28) and Lakshmi (27), both hailing from Andhra Pradesh, have known each other for quite a few years after playing on the badminton circuit. Gopichand is the second Indian after Prakash Padukone to win the men’s singles title at the All England badminton championships in 2000. He also represented the country in the Sydney Olympics and led the Indian challenge at the Thomas Cup and World championships.

A former national champion, Lakshmi had represented India in the 1996 Olympics.
