Palmeiras, Mohun Bagan record easy winsPalmeiras Club of Brazil displayed their class with an emphatic 4-0 win over Tata Football Academy while strong contenders Mohun Bagan trounced qualifiers Eveready Association 3-1 in the pre-quarter final league matches of the 107th IFA Shield Football tournament in Calcutta on Tuesday. The Brazilian outfit, the star attraction of this year's tournament, played with the customary flourish to virtually toy with their young opponents in a rather lopsided Group D encounter at the Salt Lake stadium. Striker Hilton Morara pumped in two goals while Robson Barbosa and Claudio Celio chipped in with a goal each for the Brazilian outfit, which dominated the proceedings for most part of the contest. The contest in Group B also turned out to be a one-sided affair as Mohun Bagan began their campaign with a convincing victory over their weak opponents. The glamour club slammed in three goals in the opening session through strikers Abdulateef Seriki, Colly Barnes and Jose Ramirez Barreto but failed to keep the momentum going after the breather, allowing Eveready to make a few forays into their citadel. Despite being at the receiving end for most part of the opening session, Eveready put up a better display after the interval which saw them reducing the margin through substitute medio Amit Das.
