Paes-Bhupathi in last eight

Shailesh Soni

The crack Indian doubles pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi had an easy outing in the second round of the Stella Artois grasscourt championships at Queen's Club, London, on Wednesday. The Indians breezed past the wild card British pair of Martin Lee and Arvind Parmar 6-2, 6-4.

Earlier in the day Lee and Parmar had won their first round match in a three-setter 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4 against Barnard/Thomas, and were probably a bit tired, which must have made it even easier for the Indians.

The Indians will face 4th seeds Michael Hill and Jeff Tarango in the quarter-finals, which will be a replay of the French Open semis, where the Indians defeated them. Michael Hill and Jeff Tarango defeated Paul Hanley and Andrew Kratzmann 7-5, 7-5 in their second round match.

In other second round results, the top seeds Wayne Ferreira and Todd Woodbridge defeated qualifiers Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram 7-6(13), 4-6, 6-2; fifth seeds Byron Black and Alex O'Brien defeated Simon Aspelin and Johan Landsberg 6-3, 6-4; eight seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan defeated Tomas Cibulec and Leos Friedl 6-3, 6-2. The only upset of the day was when third seeds Ellis Ferreira and Rick Leach lost to the qualifier pair of Eric Taino and David Wheaton 6-7(4), 1-6.
