Viswanathan Anand

15th FIDE World Chess champion.

Born in Madras, 11 December, 1969. Introduced to the game by his mother at the age of six. Won the National sub-junior in 1983, the National Junior in 1984 and the Senior National Championship in 1986. Became India's first Grandmaster (GM) in December 1987

Defeated Spain's Alexei Shirov 3.5-0.5 at Tehran, Iran in a six-game final to become the 15th FIDE World Chess champion in 2000.

He has an ELO rating of 2762 and is ranked 3 for the tournament.
