The nine best runs chases

When India scored 302 to defeat South Africa at Cochin the other day, it was the second such occasion the team, notoriously bad chasers, has in fact gone past 300 to win a game.

Sri Lanka and India are in fact the only teams to have performed the feat twice, while Australia, which holds the world record for the highest successful chase, has done it once.

Equally interestingly, India has never found itself at the receiving end of this equation - in other words, if you scan the list of the best 9 run-chases in ODI history, India with its ordinary bowling line-up does not figure in the loser's column even once - whereas Pakistan, the team rated to possess one of the best bowling attacks in the world, have the dubious honour of being losers of the first, and second, highest chases of all time.

Ironic results, wouldn't you say?
