A Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service in the arts, social work, public affairs, science, engineering, industry, medicine, literature, education, sports, civil service among others.

A globally renowned gastroenterologist, Dr Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy has done remarkable work in developing GI endoscopy and in the gastrointestinal sciences.
A recipient of the Padma Shri (2002) and Padma Bhushan (2016), he founded the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in Hyderabad, the world's largest gastroenterology hospital.
