9 killed, 13 injured in road accident near Thrissur

Nine pilgrims proceeding to the famous Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple were killed and 13 others injured when the van carrying them plunged into a pond after hitting a lorry.

The accident occurred on the national highway at Nenmanikkara, near Pudukkad, early Tuesday.

The deceased included four men, four women and a one-year-old child. Police said the victims hailed from Nedumangad and Aryanad in Trivandrum district and Chathannur in Kollam. The injured have been admitted to the Thrissur medical college hospital.
