Member of parliament from Thiruvananthapuram and former Union Minister of state for external affairs Dr Shashi Tharoor has said that getting an entry into the UN Security Council is a significant achievement for India.

The former minister while answering a question on whether it makes much difference as the entry is on a temporary basis said "No there is not much difference, except that there is no vetoing power for a temporary member."

When asked if he could help as he had a long innings in the United Nations, Tharoor said "I hope so and would try to do the best for the country". He added that there were several former colleagues in the UN who could be of help to Indian delegation."
