Attorney General Soli J Sorabjee submitted his resignation from the constitutional post to President A P J Abdul Kalam on the first day of the new government assuming charge.

Sorabjee's resignation letter was sent on Monday to the President and copies were sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Law Minister Hans Raj Bharadwaj.

Expected to take up few briefs in the Supreme Court after his resignation, Sorabjee is preparing to write a book on Administrative Law.

As far back as March this year, Sorabjee had made it clear to the then Law Minister Arun Jaitley that he would not continue to be the Attorney General even if the National Democratic Alliance staged a comeback at the Centre.

It is convention that the Attorney General submits his resignation after the exit of the government that had appointed him.
