Man accused of abducting Rubaiya
gets bail

A man accused of abducting the daughter of Jammu and Kashmir chief minister-designate, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, was on Friday granted bail by a Srinagar court after he spent 12 years in jail.

Showkat Bakshi, 35, was arrested on April 8, 1990, in downtown Srinagar and was charged with abducting Rubaiya Sayeed. The Mufti was the Union home minister at that time.

Bakshi was also charged with hatching a criminal conspiracy and carrying out an attack on officials of the Indian Air Force, which left five dead.
