Kashmiri Hindus celebrated Maha Shivratri, or the Night of Shiva, on Friday.

Called Herath, this was the first major Hindu festival being celebrated in the Valley after Jammu and Kashmir was changed into a Union territory last year.

On the occasion, scores of Hindu families visited temples in Srinagar and elsewhere to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.
