Blood stains have been found on the inner wear of Yogita Ashok Thakre, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a car owned by Maharashtra BJP president Nitin Gadkari, police said today.

Police earlier said the seven-year-old girl died due to "suffocation" as she accidentally locked herself inside Gadkari's luxury car, parked in front of his house in Mahal area in Nagpur on Tuesday.

According to the post-mortem report yesterday, Yogita, whose mother works as a domestic help in Gadkari's neighbourhood, died due to "smothering".

Senior police inspector R S Katole, in a release today said, blood stains have been found on Yogita's under-garment.
Katole said that blood stains were also noticed on her private parts while her mouth was found open and lips turned black.

He said that the vaginal swab has been sent to a regional forensic laboratory to determine if she was raped, he said.

Meanwhile, Umesh Choube, a social activist has accused the police of not carrying out a fair investigation into the case.
Choube alleged that the Kotwali police, under whose jurisdiction the death took place, did not conduct a 'panchnama' of the vehicle.
