Bharatiya Janata Party President Nitin Gadkari has apologised to residents of Delhi for the inconvenience caused to them during Wednesday's protest against the price rise that led to traffic jams across the city.

In a statement released in New Delhi, Gadkari said: "I personally apologise on behalf of the BJP to the people of Delhi for the inconvenience caused to them due to traffic disruptions during the rally."

The rally was held to express public angst against rising prices of essential commodities. Life was thrown completely out of gear as huge crowds approached the Ramlila Grounds, the venue for the rally.

The BJP also targeted the Congress-led government at the Centre for its anti-public welfare policies. It alleged that food stocks were rotting due to improper management at various godowns owned by the government-owned Food Corporation of India (FCI).
