Election process gets underway in Maharashtra

The notification for the election to the 288-member Maharashtra assembly was issued on Friday, setting in motion the process for the single-phase election on October 13.

Nominations can be filed from Friday till September 25. Scrutiny of the nominations will take place the next day and September 29 is the last day for withdrawal of nominations, sources in the office of state's Chief Electoral Officer said.

Polling will be held on October 13 and counting will take place on October 22, according to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India.

An electorate of 7,56,34,525 is eligible to vote. The term of the present assembly expires on November three and the election process has to be completed by October 25.
