Former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in the Rs 2000-crore money laundering scam, has been shifted to a private hospital in Ranchi from the Birsa Munda Central Jail for treatment.

Koda has been admitted to the Abdur Razzak Memorial Weavers' Hospital on Monday night with complications of urinary tract infection, said P D Sinha, director of the hospital.

The urologists will decide when to remove the ureteral stent that was inserted into Koda's kidney three months ago, Sinha said. His stay in the hospital will depend on his medical condition and the advice of the attending doctors, he added.

Security has been beefed up at the hospital and armed police jawans have been posted outside the hospital in view of Koda's admission.

Koda was arrested on November 30 from Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district by the Vigilance Bureau in connection to a disproportionate assets case after he defied the bureau's summons to present himself on November 27.

After his arrest, Koda was shifted to the state-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi on December 9 after he complained of stomach pain. After a week's stay in the hospital, he was shifted back to jail.
