Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah on Friday summoned party member of Parliament Kirti Azad, who has often attacked Arun Jaitley over 'corruption' in the Delhi District Cricket Association when he had headed it, apparently in a bid to dissuade him from raking up his allegations at a time AAP has used them to target the finance minister.

Azad, however, stuck to his decision of holding a press conference on the issue on Sunday.

"It was a good meeting (with Shah). I will hold the press conference on Sunday," he said.

Though there was no official comment on what transpired in the meeting, party sources said Shah advised Azad to exercise restraint, noting that opposition parties have used these charges to attack the BJP.

Shah's summoning of Azad came a day after BJP general secretary Ram Lal called on him over the same issue.

The BJP is understood to have told Azad that these are old charges, dating back to 2013 when Jaitley headed the DDCA, and the Congress was in power at the Centre as well as in Delhi but nothing came out of them.

"With the BJP now in power in Delhi, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party are using the same charges to embarrass Jaitley and the BJP," a party leader said.
