Fazal Haq Qureshi, the separatist leader who was seriously injured when unidentified gunmen shot at him in Srinagar on Friday evening, remained in a critical condition, said a group of doctors after examining him on Sunday morning.
"There is no deterioration in Qureshi's condition and his vital parameters are functioning, but he continues to be critical. He has been on life-support in the intensive care unit," a senior doctor said.
Militants shot Qureshi, who is in favour of talks with the Centre to resolve the Kashmir issue, while he was returning home after offering evening prayers at the local mosque.
Qureshi was brought to the hospital in a critical condition and a team of neuro-surgeons had performed a four-hour long surgery to save his life.
"The security of all the pro-dialogue separatist leaders would be reviewed and reinforced to ensure the peace process doesn't hit a road block," assured Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
He added that the state government had offered security to Qureshi, but he had declined.
Meanwhile, the moderate All Parties Hurriyat Conference's executive body met in Srinagar on Saturday evening to discuss the aftermath of the murderous attack on one of the conglomerate's senior-most leaders.
The meeting reiterated 'its resolve to continue the efforts to seek a peaceful negotiated settlement of the Kashmir issue'.
