At least 29 persons were killed and nine others were wounded, when a passenger bus rolled down into the Chenab river in the Kishtwar district of Jammu region on Monday morning.

A senior police officer said the bus was on its way from the Kishtwar town to Palmar village, when the driver lost control of bus, which rolled down into the Chenab river.

"Rescue and relief operations were launched immediately. So far 22 bodies have been recovered from the spot. All the nine injured were taken to Kishtwar hospital. Four critically injured persons have been airlifted to Jammu for specialised treatment," Jammu zone inspector general of police, K.Rajendra told rediff.com.

Road accidents in the Kishtwar and Doda districts in Jammu region are common, because of the difficult terrain and bad road conditions.
