The eighth India Abroad Person of the Year awards, the most eagerly awaited event in the Indian-American social calendar, will be held in New York on March 5.
The IAPOY, hosted by the North America-based publication India Abroad, owned by rediff.com (NASDAQ: REDF), had a humble beginning in 2002 with one award going to Iowa lawmaker Swati Dandekar. Today it has blossomed into one of the Indian-American community's most treasured galas, and every year brings together Indian-origin leaders from the worlds of politics, business, academics and films.
Previous awardees include filmmaker Mira Nair, PepsiCo chairperson and CEO Indra Nooyi and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, among others.
At the IAPOY 2009 this year a total of seven awards will be handed out, including the coveted India Abroad Person of the Year trophy.
